Alaçatı

Seeing Alaçatı like a local

Alaçatı is best seen when you know the hours of the crowds. We wrote this guide around the questions our guests ask most, and we update it at the start of each season.

The wind

In summer Alaçatı mostly gets a strong wind from the north, which is why it is known for windsurfing. The wind usually picks up in the afternoon. If you want to learn to surf, book a morning lesson; for swimming, choose the bays on the south coast that are sheltered from the wind.

The bazaar

Kemalpaşa Street and the stone lanes around it get very busy in the evening. To take photos and browse the shops in peace, walk down at around ten in the morning. The bazaar is about five minutes from the house on foot.

Vineyards

There are vineyards around Alaçatı and Çeşme that welcome visitors. Most ask you to book a tasting in advance, and we are happy to call them for you.

Bays

At weekends the beaches on the north side of the Çeşme peninsula fill up. For a quieter day, go on a weekday and pick the small bays on the south coast. At breakfast we will tell you which bay is sheltered from the wind that day.
