Audit which GA4 events count as key events before reporting
A check of GA4 key event definitions against real event data and GTM tags, with any key event change previewed for approval.
When to use it
When you are about to report conversions and are not sure GA4 is counting the right events or counting some twice.
What you get
A table of every event with its key event status, 30-day count, GTM tags and a keep, remove, add or check verdict, plus any key event change previewed for your approval.
Does it change anything in my account?
Only with your approval. The assistant first shows a preview of every change and waits for your go-ahead.
Works with
GA4, Tag Manager

[GA4 property][GTM container]
Before I send conversion numbers to management, verify that GA4 property [GA4 property] counts the right things.
1. List every event marked as a key event, with its counting method.
2. Pull event counts by event name for the last 30 days. Flag each of the following:
- key events with zero events in the period
- key events that look like low-value actions, such as page_view, scroll or click
- events named like real business outcomes (purchase, generate_lead, form_submit, phone_click) that are not marked as key events
3. In GTM container [GTM container], list the GA4 event tags and their triggers.
4. Flag any business event that is sent by more than one tag, or that fires on a trigger broader than its purpose. These are likely double counting.
Deliverable:
- a table with these columns: event, key event yes/no, 30-day count, GTM tag(s), verdict (keep / remove from key events / add as key event / check tag)
If you recommend marking a new event as a key event, show me exactly what will change and wait for my approval. Do not edit anything in GA4 or GTM yourself.
