GA4 lead measurement and Google Ads link checklist

Checks that a GA4 property tracks leads correctly, flags events that should be key events or fire too often, and confirms the Google Ads link and paid traffic attribution.

When to use it

When you are not sure your website leads are tracked correctly in GA4 or that Google Ads receives them.

What you get

A checklist marking each item OK or Missing, the events that should become key events, and warnings for events that fire too often.

Does it change anything in my account?

[property name][account name][contact page path][thank-you page path, if any]
Check that GA4 property [property name] measures leads properly for a local service business and feeds Google Ads correctly. Use the last 28 days. 1. List the data streams with their measurement IDs and the site URL each one is bound to. 2. List the key events with their counting method. Then run a report split by event name, so every event in the property appears with its event count. Mark which ones are key events and which are not. Pay attention to lead-related events that are not key events yet, such as form_start, form_submit, generate_lead, and any phone or WhatsApp click events. 3. Find my Google Ads account [account name] and its 10-digit ID, then confirm whether the property is linked to it. 4. Show sessions and key events by session source/medium. I want to see whether paid traffic arrives as google / cpc rather than referral or (not set). 5. Pull sessions by page for my contact page [contact page path] and my thank-you page [thank-you page path, if any]. Over-firing rule: a form-based lead key event (form_submit, generate_lead or similar) should not fire more often than there are sessions on the page where the form sits. Flag any form key event whose count is higher than the sessions on [contact page path], and flag it as likely double counting if its count is more than 1.5 times those sessions. Phone and WhatsApp click events can fire from every page, so compare those against total sessions instead and flag them if they exceed 10% of all sessions. Deliver: - a checklist with OK or Missing for each item: data stream present, lead key event exists, counting method sensible, Ads link present, paid traffic tagged as google / cpc, - the events that should become key events, with a reason for each and the counting method you recommend, - the over-firing warnings from the rule above, with the numbers behind each one. For any key event to create or any Ads link to set up, show me a preview and wait for my approval.
