Google Ads service-area leakage report: where clicks really come from

A location report showing spend from people outside your service area, with the targeting setting that causes it and a previewed fix.

When to use it

When a local business suspects its Google Ads clicks come from people outside the area it actually serves and wants to stop paying for them.

What you get

A per-campaign table of in-area vs out-of-area cost and conversions with the top 15 out-of-area locations, plus previewed targeting fixes applied only after your approval.

Does it change anything in my account?

Only with your approval. The assistant first shows a preview of every change and waits for your go-ahead.

[account name][service area]
Check whether Google Ads account [account name] is paying for clicks outside our service area of [service area]. Use the last 90 days. 1. For each active campaign, read the current location and radius targeting and the location option, either presence or presence-or-interest. 2. Query performance by the user's physical location (user_location_view) and, separately, by targeted location (geographic_view). For each, show clicks, cost, conversions and cost per conversion at city or district level. 3. Resolve any location names you need with the geo target search. Flag these cases: - Locations outside the service area with cost above 3% of the campaign total. Mark them "zero conversions" or "converting" accordingly. - Campaigns set to presence-or-interest. Quantify how much of their spend came from users physically outside the targeted area. Deliverables: 1. A table per campaign showing in-area vs out-of-area cost, conversions and cost per conversion. 2. The top 15 out-of-area locations sorted by cost. If a change is justified, such as switching to presence or excluding locations, show a preview of the exact setting change per campaign and wait for my approval.
