Find the irrelevant placements eating Demand Gen and Display budgets

Pulls the YouTube channels, videos, apps and sites where your ads ran, with cost and conversions. Classifies children's content, games and placements in unrelated languages and prepares an exclusion list ready to paste into the interface.

When to use it

When your Demand Gen, Display or video campaigns get plenty of clicks at a very low cost per click but bring no conversions.

What you get

The share of spend going to irrelevant placements per campaign, a classified placement table and an exclusion list you can paste straight into the Google Ads interface. Nothing in the account changes.

Does it change anything in my account?

No. The assistant only reads your data and reports back.

[account name][target audience, e.g. business owners in the UK]
I suspect my Demand Gen, Display and video campaigns in Google Ads account [account name] are getting very cheap clicks that do nothing. Work out where my ads actually ran and list the placements to exclude. My target audience: [target audience, e.g. business owners in the UK]. This is a read-only review, do not change anything. 1. Campaigns. Get the Demand Gen, Display and video campaigns with their cost per click and conversions using account_snapshot. Put first the campaigns whose cost per click is far below the account's Search campaigns and that bring no conversions. 2. Group-level placements. With google_ads_query, pull the last 30 days from group_placement_view: campaign, placement_type, display_name, target_url, impressions, clicks, cost, conversions. Sort by cost and give the date range with BETWEEN and explicit dates. 3. Detailed placements. With google_ads_query, pull the same period from detail_placement_view sorted by clicks; individual YouTube videos and apps appear here. This resource can return thousands of rows, so set a limit (for example 200), state the total row count separately and never present a truncated table as complete. 4. Classify. Put each placement into one of these groups: children's content, games, mobile app, a language outside my audience's language, unrelated entertainment, relevant, unclear. State that the decision is based only on the name and address, and leave rows you are not sure about as "unclear". Decision rules: 1. Never put a placement that brought at least one conversion on the exclusion list. 2. Flag placements with a click-through rate above 10% and no conversions separately; a rate that high usually points to accidental taps. 3. Do not propose excluding Google's own surfaces such as youtube.com, Gmail and Discover as if they were a single placement; summarise their results on a separate line. 4. Judge placements with fewer than 10 clicks in 30 days as a group, not one by one. Format the output like this: first a campaign summary (campaign, clicks, cost per click, conversions, share of cost going to irrelevant groups). Then an exclusion table: placement, type, group, clicks, cost, click-through rate, conversions, decision. Finally, one list of the YouTube channels, apps and sites to exclude, in a form I can copy and paste into the Google Ads interface. There is no tool that excludes placements, so I will add this list to a placement exclusion list or to the account-level content suitability settings myself.
