Measure Microsoft Ads spend on syndication partners and switch it off where needed

Compares Bing and Microsoft's own sites with syndicated search partners per ad group, lists the partner sites taking spend and switches weak ad groups to Bing only after your approval.

When to use it

When clicks in your Microsoft Ads account grow but conversions do not, or when you do not know which sites outside Bing show your ads.

What you get

A summary by network, a keep-on or Bing-only decision per ad group, the list of partner sites taking spend and network changes applied after your approval with a written rollback path.

Does it change anything in my account?

Only with your approval. The assistant first shows a preview of every change and waits for your go-ahead.

[account name][target CPA]
In my Microsoft Ads account [account name], my ads may be showing on syndicated search partners as well as Bing. I want to see whether that traffic converts and, where needed, switch it off at ad group level. My target CPA is [target CPA]. 1. Account and structure. Get the account ID with list_microsoft_accounts, the campaigns with list_entities (platform=microsoft, entity=campaigns), and then the ad groups of each campaign with list_microsoft_ad_groups. 2. Network split. With microsoft_report_query, pull the last 90 days with report_type=AdGroupPerformance and these columns: CampaignName, AdGroupName, Network, TopVsOther, Impressions, Clicks, Spend, Conversions, Revenue. Use the Network value to separate Bing and Microsoft's own sites from syndicated partners. 3. Partner site detail. With microsoft_report_query, pull the same period with report_type=PublisherUsagePerformance and the columns CampaignName, AdGroupName, PublisherUrl, Network, Impressions, Clicks, Spend, Conversions, and list the partner sites taking spend. 4. Calculate. For each ad group, work out clicks, cost, conversions, cost per conversion and conversion rate by network. Decision rules: 1. Do not decide for an ad group with fewer than 50 clicks on partner sites; write "not enough data". 2. If the partner sites' cost per conversion is above 1.5 times the target, or they have no conversions after 50 clicks, recommend "Bing only". 3. If partner sites convert below target, leave the network on. 4. Never recommend switching an ad group to partners only (SyndicatedSearchOnly). 5. If a report comes back empty, first check whether the account spent anything in the period; never read an empty report as "no partner sites". Format the output like this: first an account-level network summary (network, clicks, cost, conversions, cost per conversion). Then an ad group table: campaign, ad group, Bing cost per conversion, partner cost per conversion, partner share of spend, decision (keep on, Bing only, not enough data). Then the top 20 partner sites by spend. Applying: for ad groups marked "Bing only", use update_microsoft_ad_group with account_id, campaign_id, ad_group_id and network=OwnedAndOperatedOnly, and leave every other field empty. Preview all of them with confirm=false first, wait for my approval, then apply. No tool reads the current network setting, so before the change note from the report whether each ad group had partner spend, and write how to roll back with network=OwnedAndOperatedAndSyndicatedSearch if needed. Remind me to pull the same report again 14 days after the change to check whether total conversions dropped.
