Set up Meta conversion tracking for form leads and phone clicks
Checks your Meta pixel, WordPress site and GTM container for gaps, then drafts and publishes, step by step with approval, a Lead conversion for Contact Form 7 submissions and a Contact event for tel: clicks.
When to use it
When you are about to send Meta ads traffic to your WordPress site and your form submissions and phone clicks are not tracked as conversions.
What you get
A checklist of tracking gaps and a Lead conversion for form submissions plus a Contact event for tel: clicks, built in GTM and published step by step with your approval.
Does it change anything in my account?
Only with your approval. The assistant first shows a preview of every change and waits for your go-ahead.
Before I spend on Meta ads that send traffic to my website, make sure website forms and phone clicks are tracked as conversions.
1. List my Meta pixels with their last fired time, and my existing custom conversions. Point out any custom conversion that has never fired. Last fired time is the only pixel health signal available here, so if a pixel looks stale, tell me to check Events Manager for event details.
2. On my WordPress site [site URL]:
- show every place GTM or GA4 fires and flag duplicate containers. Note the GTM container id the site loads.
- check for a Meta pixel installed outside GTM: a pixel plugin in the plugin list (for example PixelYourSite or Facebook for WooCommerce), "fbq(" in page content, a WPCode snippet containing fbq, or fbq in the active theme's header file
- list my Contact Form 7 forms with their required fields and notification email
- check whether a submission goes to a thank-you page: search page content and snippets for "wpcf7mailsent" redirects or a link to [thank-you page URL], check that page exists and is published, and if possible fetch the URL to confirm it loads. If you cannot tell for sure, say so and ask me.
3. In GTM, find the container whose id matches the one on my site (if they differ, stop and tell me). List the current tags, triggers and variables in the workspace I should use. Read the Custom HTML tags' code to see whether the Meta pixel base code (fbq('init', ...)) is there, and read the trigger conditions to see whether anything fires on tel: link clicks.
4. Draft the fixes:
- if forms go to a thank-you page: a Meta custom conversion on my pixel for URLs containing [thank-you page path], categorised as Lead
- if forms only show an on-page message: say that a URL rule will never fire, and draft a Custom HTML listener tag on All Pages that pushes a "cf7_success" dataLayer event when "wpcf7mailsent" fires, a custom event trigger on "cf7_success", and a Custom HTML tag on that trigger that sends a Lead event to my pixel
- turn on the Click URL built-in variable, then a Just Links click trigger for clicks where Click URL starts with tel:
- a Custom HTML tag that sends a Contact event to my pixel [pixel name] on that trigger
- only if the pixel base code is missing everywhere: a base code tag with my pixel id on All Pages. If the pixel already loads through a plugin, a snippet or the theme, do not add a second copy.
- if there is no All Pages trigger to use, include one in the draft
5. Optional: offer to send one test submission to my form to confirm the notification mail goes out. It sends a real email, so ask me first.
Present the gaps as a short checklist, then show the exact changes as a preview (every tool call with confirm=false first). Do not create the custom conversion, enable the built-in variable, create the GTM items, or publish the container until I approve each step. Before publishing, show me the GTM workspace status so I see exactly what goes live. After publishing, check the pixel's last fired time again and tell me to confirm the Lead and Contact events in Events Manager's Test Events.
